Dirty dry martini, stirred with extra olives. I wash the ice in vermouth, just the tiniest bit, add brine from the olives and gin, of course. Not for every day, but my favourite way to drink gin. Made with Bombay Sapphire. And yes, I can put a cocktail umbrella in a martini if I want to!
Tanqueray and tonic with lime. Yes, awfully similar to yesterday, but I wanted to taste test between Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire. They are my two “everyday” gins, alternated based on which is on special. The taste test proved my preference for Bombay. Tanqueray is a drier gin with a tart finish, while Bombay feels softer with more defined botanical flavours. Yes, I am aware I sound like a wanker.
Bombay Sapphire and tonic with fresh lime. I may have gone too early with my favourite, but I’ll be more creative tomorrow.
Last night my gorgeous friend Ray sent me a link to Ginuary which of course excited me very much. I misread the instructions last night, hardly surprising, thought it involved drinking a different gin every day, which seemed quite challenging. Turns out it’s much more freestyle, but I like the of gin a different way every day. Much more manageable.
I am under prepared for day one, no gin in the house, but I do have Pimms, which is a type of gin, right? It is London Dry Gin mixed with fruit extracts, apparently the recipe is a closely guarded secret known to only six people. That’s what the bottle says.
It is much lighter than gin with spicy, fruity flavours and come in at just 25% alcohol. I’m drinking it with ginger ale and fresh lime. It is tasty and delicious, but doesn’t have the familiar kick of your usual gin.

Not so long ago there was a bit of an uproar on Twitter about some highly inappropriate underwear being sold for girls. Knickers with slogans like CALL ME and I <3 RICH BOYS, completely inappropriate in size 6 underpants. Any rational person would agree and Kmart rightly took them off their shelves. The fact they sold them in the first place is mind boggling, but they did the right thing in the end.
Off the back of this I noticed a tweet declaring that Bra ‘n’ Things supports pedophilia with a link to this ”Teacher’s Pet” outfit. This really annoyed me. This is an adult lingerie shop that openly advertises that it sells fantasy and fetish wear. The model is clearly well past puberty, looks to be in her 20s to me. This is not comparable to a family department store selling sexually explicit underwear to children.
The reality is adults have sexual kinks and perversions, just because your kink is not my kink doesn’t make yours wrong. As long as fantasies are lived out between consenting adults there is no need to police them, and this sort of moral panic makes us all look like the boy who cried wolf when we point out truly inappropriate sexualisation of children.
