The Artist’s Way Part I

For the past 2 years or so I have trying to commit to completing The Artists’ Way. It is a hugely popular creative rehabilitation programme by Julia Cameron. My aunt, a wonderful artist and creator of Visual Medicine, insisted that I buy it for myself at her expense for Christmas a few years ago (she lives in London, so that is not quite as strange as it sounds).

For those familiar with the programme, don’t worry; I will not be posting my morning pages here. Too dull, too personal, too… well, crap. I’ll just write updates a few times a week so I feel like I’m accountable to someone other than myself.

“I, ellymc, understand that I am undertaking an intensive, guided encounter with my own creativity. I commit myself to the twelve-week duration of the course. I, ellymc, commit to weekly reading, daily morning pages, a weekly artist date, and the fulfilment of each week’s task. I, ellymc, further understand that this course will raise issues and emotions for me to deal with. I, ellymc, commit myself to excellent self-care – adequate sleep, diet and exercise, and pampering – for the duration of the course.”
